Google created its URL shortening service in 2009 to provide an alternative to popular competitors like tinyurl.com and bit.ly. Google's developer team has announced that Goo.gl will be shut down in exactly one year, by March 30, 2019. The shutting down process starts on April 13th. Users who have never used the service, or who have used it anonymously, will no longer be able to create short links after that date. If you currently use the service, you can continue to do so until the bitter end.
