Let's face it, people lose their smartphones or even get them stolen. Certainly, you should have a lock code enabled so that unauthorized users can't access your data if you are separated from your device. You should also make sure you can find your smartphone. iOS devices have Find My iPhone and Android users have Find My Device. Make sure you enable it on your device. Go to Settings and Select Google (Google settings). From there, select Security and then Find My Device. Make sure Find My Device is enabled. You can then logon to your Google account and use the Find My Device feature to try and locate your device, play a sound, lock the device or wipe it.
You won't be able to locate the device if location services are turned off. The location shown will be the last one when location services were turned on. Your Google account will show the wireless network that the device is connected to, assuming Wi-Fi is on and you're connected. That may be a clue as to where your device is located.
